Bacha bazi (“boy play”), the Afghan practice of taking boys, dressing them as women and making them dance for gatherings of men, which routinely shades into sexual slavery. Banned on paper, persistent in practice, and entangled with power: the men who keep bacha have often been the warlords and commanders nobody dares prosecute. One of those things that is hard to read about and harder to justify not knowing.
