Original in Spanish: Eritrea y Afewerki
Isaias Afewerki belonged to the “Eritrean Liberation Front” party, which later became the “Eritrean People’s Liberation Front”; he became president of the country and I suppose he considered it liberated, because since then there has been only one party, called the “People’s Front for Democracy and Justice”, and elections have never been called again.
According to the FAO more than 60% of Eritrea’s population was already undernourished in 2013. Since then hunger has not stopped growing.
In 2001 a “government permit” was imposed to work as a journalist, and people from private media were detained or executed without any charges. For some of the foreigners it’s still unknown whether they’re alive or what. Internet penetration is 2% and you must identify yourself before connecting, so the journalists who managed to go into exile have it hard too.
In that context, the state media’s slogan is “Serving the truth”.
Unbelievable.
