Original in Spanish: Podcasts que escucho
V. got me thinking about what I listen to in podcast form. I have them all somewhat abandoned lately because I usually listen while walking down the street or in the shower, and well, lately I don’t do the former and the latter… the latter I do.
Anyway, here’s my list of super-favourites:
1.- The Moth: it’s like a Humans of New York in podcast form. It’s about those super-special things ordinary people have if you look at them up close and one at a time. I usually want to buy them all beers. IN ENGLISH. https://themoth.org/podcast
2.- TED Radio Hour: interviews with people who gave a TED talk, with bits of the TED in question. It’s like sneaking into a good, well-structured chat between friends. I usually go listen to the actual TED and google things afterwards. It annoys me that they repeat episodes, but it’s a podcast, so you skip it and done. IN ENGLISH. https://www.npr.org/podcasts/510298/ted-radio-hour
3.- Hidden Brain: 1-hour episodes about psychology. They usually cover things I somehow already know, but mixed in there’s always an example I’d never heard that blows my mind, or they teach me something new. I make mental reference to this podcast very often. IN ENGLISH. https://www.npr.org/podcasts/510308/hidden-brain
4.- El gran apagón: this is a fiction series. Seriously, like in the old days before TV. It’s about what would happen if a solar storm left the whole planet without electricity and communications, in case the pandemic wasn’t enough for you. There are two characters, a Galician father and daughter, that I adore. I wish they made more things like this. IN SPANISH. https://www.podiumpodcast.com/el-gran-apagon/
5.- Gabinete de curiosidades: I’ve only listened to the first season, it’s going to run short. It’s like keeping the good side of being a collector without angering Marie Kondo. IN SPANISH. https://www.gabinetepodcast.com/
And then, also on the list without hesitation:
- 99% Invisible. IN ENGLISH.
- Stuff You Should Know. IN ENGLISH.
- Todopoderosos, Cinemascopazos, Aquí hay dragones… IN SPANISH.
- Catástrofe Ultravioleta. IN SPANISH.
- Nadie sabe nada. IN SPANISH.
EDIT: Adding more audio fiction.
- ¿En qué puedo ayudarle? Very absurd, you crack up laughing. This one you either love or hate. 5-minute episodes.
- Guerra 3 From the makers of El gran apagón, not as epic but good.
- Informe Z In case the pandemic isn’t enough for you either, this one has zombies.
- Negra y Criminal Very classic horror. I LOVE THE INTRO, when it says “shhttt, listen”. It has the best female horror voice in the world.
- Historias de medianoche The Chicho ones of all time.
- Bienvenido a la vida peligrosa Traffickers, drugs… Reina del Sur vibes.
