Chilean actor (Lota, 1926 to Santiago, 2008), with a long career in theatre, film and television. And, on the side, a science fiction devotee serious enough to preside over the Club Chileno de Ciencia Ficción, founded in 1975.

He compiled two anthologies. El mundo que no veremos (1974): he read some 600 stories and kept the twelve he thought were the best. The title comes from his answer to a journalist asking why he read science fiction: because it let him know a world he would never get to see. Then Antología de cuentos chilenos de ciencia ficción y fantasía (1988), twelve stories by Chilean authors.

Best reason to read sci-fi I’ve heard in a while.
