Commander, later captain, of the space station Deep Space Nine, played by Avery Brooks: the first Black lead of a Star Trek series. A widower raising his son, and, without wanting it, a religious figure (the “Emissary”) for the people of Bajor. The series that stayed put in one place, and was darker for it.
