American science fiction writer (b. 1967) with the strangest ratio in the genre: around 18 stories in 30 years, and 4 Hugos and 4 Nebulas to show for them. A technical writer by day, he publishes a story only when the idea deserves it. His “Story of Your Life” became the film Arrival; his second collection is Exhalación.
