Tech hubs, luxury hotels and reconciliation villages, all in the same country, two decades after a genocide.
That’s the Rwanda Debra Kamin describes in her TEDxPorto talk (April 2018). She had reported from Kigali for The New York Times, and her thesis at the University of Chicago was about societies recovering from mass trauma. Her argument: Rwanda’s success didn’t happen in spite of the trauma, but because of how the country chose to face it.
A strong claim. I’d like to hear it next to When We See Us, the Rwandan version told from inside.
