Tim Urban spent six years asking why societies with more knowledge than ever seem to think worse than ever, and answered with stick figures. His proposal: forget left vs right for a moment and add a vertical axis, the Ladder. High-rung thinking treats ideas like hypotheses you can lose without losing yourself; low-rung thinking treats them as team jerseys, and reason becomes a lawyer hunting ammunition. Groups work the same way: Idea Labs (ideas get attacked, people get respected) vs Echo Chambers (ideas are sacred, doubters are heretics). The second half applies all this to American polarization and cancel culture, and got predictably polarized reactions. The frame is the keeper: not WHAT you think, but HOW.
