Original in Spanish: Los duelos de poesía Inuit

Yesterday I learned something I didn’t know I didn’t know.

Turns out the Inuit used improvised poetry to settle disputes. Like a duel, but without violence.

You have to be very civilized to decide to resolve conflicts without using your hands. Back then our equivalent was a lot cruder.

On every corner there’s someone who can teach you something important.

I also recommend the documentary “La sonrisa del Sol”. There you can meet an Inuit family visiting the Canary Islands. Even though it’s sponsored by the islands’ government it’s made with respect, without any trace of superiority, by someone in love with that culture.
