The nymph who kept Odysseus for seven years on her island, Ogygia, in The Odyssey. Daughter of the Titan Atlas, in most versions.
She offered him immortality if he stayed as her husband; he spent his days crying on the shore. In the end Zeus, pushed by Athena, sent Hermes to make her let him go, and she helped him build the raft. Her name means “she who conceals”.
Played by Charlize Theron in The Odyssey (film) (2026).
