Poet and playwright of the Generación del 27, author of Romancero gitano, Poeta en Nueva York, Bodas de sangre and the Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías (see La cogida y la muerte). Murdered by Francoist forces at the start of the Civil War in 1936, body never found.
His work entered the public domain in 2017.
His last love was Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, the man behind much of the Sonetos del amor oscuro. One of his unfinished plays, La bola negra, became the seed of Los Javis’ film La bola negra (2026).
