Mad Max (1979), made for about A$200,000 and grossing a hundred million; Mad Max 2 (1981), the one that invented what the post-apocalypse looks like for everyone since; Beyond Thunderdome (1985), co-directed with George Ogilvie; Mad Max Fury Road (2015), after a thirty year gap; and Furiosa (2024).
Mel Gibson played Max in the first three, Tom Hardy in Fury Road. The odd thing about the saga is that Max is barely the protagonist of the later ones, he is the weather that happens to other people’s stories.
