A two hour car chase that won six Oscars. Part of the Mad Max saga, directed by George Miller at 70.
They drive out, they turn around, they drive back. That is the plot, and it is enough because everything else is carried by what you see rather than what anyone says: Max (Tom Hardy) barely speaks, and the actual protagonist is Furiosa, who is stealing five women from the man who owns them.
Almost all of it is practical. Real vehicles, real desert, stunt performers on poles swinging over moving trucks. That is why it has aged about twenty times better than anything rendered.
Six wins from ten nominations at the 2016 Academy Awards, all of them craft categories: editing, costume, production design, makeup, sound mixing, sound editing.
