Helen of Sparta, really: wife of King Menelaus. Her leaving for Troy with Paris (abducted or willing, depending on who tells it) started the Trojan War of The Iliad. “The face that launched a thousand ships”, in Marlowe’s line, two thousand years later.
In The Odyssey she’s home again in Sparta, as if nothing had happened. Played by Lupita Nyong’o in The Odyssey (film) (2026), who also plays her sister Clytemnestra.
Her leaving Menelaus’ house with his guest broke Xenia, the Greeks’ sacred rule of hospitality.
